This sweet and hilarious film takes whimsical liberties with the real-life experience of Robert Stephens (a.k.a. Angel Benton), a gay, cross-dressing Britney Spears impersonator and fan who won the opportunity to meet his idol in a look-alike contest. When a TV crew mistook Robert’s drag-self for the real deal, Britney’s publicists angrily threw him out. Using this true incident as its premise, Britney, Baby… tells the fictional story of director Dude Schmitz (played by regional filmmaker Mark Borchardt, subject of the documentary American Movie), who fails to get an interview with the pop star for a local news station. Dude convinces Robert, playing himself, to travel with him to Britney’s next tour stop. Good-natured Robert delights Britney fans in malls along the way, unaware that Dude is sending footage of him back to the station and pawning it off as a behind-the-scenes exclusive. A Sundance Film Festival favorite.

A legendary drag night in New York is the point of departure for transgendered worlds, where women become men—some for a night, others for whole lives. The drag kings of New York meet in clubs and change lustfully into their male alter egos, parodying and exploring male eroticism and power strategies. Other women experiment with hormones to become new men.
