Eros Month at New Beverly

The New Beverly pays tributes to the theater's history as a pornographic theater, The Eros, in the 1970s with a month of themed programming -- including Queer fave Showgirls, Anaïas Nin biopic Henry & June, and gay porn (18+ only) classics Forbidden Letters, The Night Before, and Nights in Black Leather.

This Week

Showgirls
Mar 10, 7:30 PM @ New Beverly Cinema
A clumsy depiction of female bisexuality would normally not be enough to make Showgirls count as queer--but the film's cult classic status is sustained in large part by loyal Queer fans. Watch it, then go see documentary "You Don't Nomi" by Jeffrey McHale.

Brief Encounter
Mar 10, 10:00 PM @ Los Feliz 3
Often considered one of the best British films of all time, this tender tale of a forbidden affair between married partners is based on a play by gay writer Noel Coward, and director David Lean, who was no stranger to putting gay subtext in his films (hello, Lawrence of Arabia).
Tickets from American Cinematheque

Pickpocket
Mar 15, 12:00 PM @ Egyptian Theatre
Bresson's tense thriller is never overtly gay, and in many ways is a moral parable. But the sensuous connections of pickpocketing, the psychosexual thrill, and the strange meetings of thieves (like in men's bathrooms) leaves a distinctly Queer impression on this nimble art.
Tickets from American Cinematheque
