Following the death of his mother, a 17-year-old Egyptian teenager, NABIL, relocates to Toronto to live with his estranged father, ISKANDER, an eminent architect. In his exploration of the city, he meets MALIBU, a trans elder, fighting alone against the possible demolition of her haven, MANDY’S, a drag nightclub. Nabil is reminded of his mother, a seamstress, and fashion designer when he learns that Malibu sews all her outfits, and asks Malibu to teach him his mother’s craft. Malibu and Nabil develop a friendship and Nabil is thrust into Malibu’s crusade to save Mandy’s, which has long-time history for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Nabil fails to disclose that it is his own father’s work that is responsible for the impending demolition of Mandy’s, but nonetheless joins the fight. As Nabil comes into his own queer identity, he realizes that he not only needs to sew his mother’s dress, but that he needs to wear it and become QUEEN TUT.F

Director Corey Sherman, producer Allison Tate & actress Emily Deschanel
Big Boys is a coming-of-age comedy about the thrilling turning point in a queer person’s life, before they come out to the world, when they come out to themselves. Jamie is a chubby, gay fourteen year-old confused about his sexuality and uncomfortable in his own body, but all that changes when his cousin brings her new boyfriend, Dan, on a family camping trip. Dan is a beefy, charming “bear” of a man who ignites feelings in Jamie that he had previously repressed and proves to him that big men can be sexy too. Although Dan is straight and twice his age, that doesn’t stop lovestruck Jamie from doing whatever it takes to get closer to him in this funny, tender film about the power of a first crush.

Photographer Stewart Shining
George Platt Lynes began his career photographing celebrities, and it's those portraits along with his extravagant fashion work that he's best remembered for today. However, George's heart, his passion, and his greatest talent lay elsewhere, in his work with the male nude. This work, sensuous and radically explicit for its time, has only recently begun being fully discovered and appreciated for the revolution that it represents - a man capturing his fantasies as a gift, a window to a future his camera saw coming before anyone else. From visionary art director Sam Shahid, HIDDEN MASTER features a stunning collection of photography from the 1930s-50s, uncovering the life of Lynes less known: his gifted eye for the male form, his long term friendships with Gertrude Stein and Alfred Kinsey, and his lasting influence as one of the first openly gay American artists.

The kickoff to the "Queer Diaspora" film program series from PRS and filmmaker/programmer Gregorio Davila. With vendors from Queer Mercado and after-party with music by DJ Sindri of HOT DOG.
This iconic documentary, filmed over seven years at the beginning of the AIDS crisis in New York City's ballroom scene, captures the end of a "Golden Age" drag scene--and introduced a whole lot of Queer vocabulary to mainstream audiences.
Where does voguing come from, and what, exactly, is throwing shade? This landmark documentary provides a vibrant snapshot of the 1980s through the eyes of New York City’s African American and Latinx Harlem drag-ball scene. Made over seven years, PARIS IS BURNING offers an intimate portrait of rival fashion “houses,” from fierce contests for trophies to house mothers offering sustenance in a world rampant with homophobia, transphobia, racism, AIDS, and poverty. Featuring legendary voguers, drag queens, and trans women — including Willi Ninja, Pepper LaBeija, Dorian Corey, and Venus Xtravaganza — PARIS IS BURNING brings it, celebrating the joy of movement, the force of eloquence, and the draw of community.

The first film from "worst director of all time" Ed Wood (a lifelong cross-dresser) is one of his many cult classics--and a progressive/problematic exploration of cross-dressing and trans identities long before we had our current vocabularies for trans identity.
The film is a docudrama about cross-dressing and transvestism, and is semi-autobiographical in nature. Wood himself was a cross-dresser, and the film is a plea for tolerance. It was widely considered one of the worst films ever made upon release. However, it has since been reevaluated and has become a cult film due to its low-budget production values, idiosyncratic style, and early cinematic themes of transgender acceptance.

A feature-length essay/art film that makes a contrary case that Queer liberation didn't just begin in the 60s, but developed through the 19th century--marking the "homosexual century."
“Race d’Ep!” (which literally translates to “Breed of Faggots”) was made by the “father of queer theory,” Guy Hocquenghem, in collaboration with radical queer filmmaker and provocateur Lionel Soukaz. The film traces the history of modern homosexuality through the twentieth century, from early sexology and the nudes of Baron von Gloeden to gay liberation and cruising on the streets of Paris. Influenced by the groundbreaking work of Michel Foucault on the history of sexuality and reflecting the revolutionary queer activism of its day, “Race d’Ep!” is a shockingly frank, sex-filled experimental documentary about gay culture emerging from the shadows. ×

The Playland Café, Boston’s oldest gay bar, was established in 1937 and was a vital queer hub in the city until 1998, when rampant ‘urban renewal’ projects led to its closure. Demolished but never forgotten, it acted as a meeting ground for an exceptionally diverse crowd — throughout its lifespan, it featured acts from drag performances to DJ sets and was connected to Pride rallies and underground gay newspapers. As a gathering place for outsiders, it was also a target for police raids and zoning. Artist-filmmaker Georden West’s debut feature is an expressionist and very queer bricolage, focusing on an atemporal night in the renowned Playland Café. Following its employees and others who have haunted the space, weaving together a tapestry of personal and community anecdotes across the bar’s existence.
