Sadie’s art is her photography. Nico’s art is her life. Together they explore Britain’s 60’s mod culture of music, fashion, drugs and vintage scooters in contemporary Los Angeles. Sadie observes the world through the lens of her 35 mm camera, but everything changes when she meets Nico, the new “mod” girl who was born with Milroy’s disease that causes her to have abnormal swelling in her foot. Nico doesn’t hide her disability, in fact she loves the spotlight. Sadie is drawn into Nico’s thrilling world of aesthetics where Sadie learns about herself and who she really is.
This film is presented in English with English subtitles.
A smash hit at festivals everywhere, E.E.Cassidy's award winning film "We Are the Mods" starts the festival off with a bang. Cassidy perfectly captures the mood and feel of neo-Mod Los Angeles complete with motor scooters and vintage ska. Come and see the movie Filmmaker magazine called "an affectionate and good-hearted homage to not only seminal films of the 1960s but also to the heady rush of young artistic discovery familiar to any sensitive ex-high schooler." We Are The Mods is a teen drama using the familiar territory of 'good girl corrupted by the bad' while simultaneously serving as a tribute to 60s cult classics like Blow-Up and the early work of Jean-Luc Godard.

Beyond Gay: The Politics of Pride

Thu, May 06 @ 7:30 pm
Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
Director Bob Christie in person
In honor of the 40th anniversary of Boston Pride we are opening the 2010 Boston LGBT Film Festival with Bob Christie's stunning documentary on Pride across the globe Beyond Gay: The Politics of Pride.
Gay Pride marches and festivals are happening all over the world sometimes under heavy opposition and violence. This feature length documentary follows the Vancouver Pride Society’s (VPS) Parade Director Ken Coolen and his VPS colleagues as they travel to places where Pride is still steeped in protest to personally experience the rampant homophobia that still exists. They also travel to São Paulo, Brazil for the world’s largest gay parade and New York City, the birthplace of the modern gay liberation movement. Increasingly the Pride movement is globalizing. Coolen and many Pride organizers in North America and Europe, where celebration has overtaken political action, strive to remind their communities that Pride is at its heart a global fight for human rights. Despite the hundreds of thousands of people cheering in the streets, Pride is much, much more than a parade and a party. It is a giant step on the road to true equality. The GLBT community during Pride is an entertaining and engaging multi- ethnic group than can bring attention to the issue of human rights with diversity, insight, and of course plenty of fabulousness.
