The Turkish army considers homosexuality a mental disorder which exonerates young men from military service, but also requires a medical diagnosis to be reached through both psychological and more invasive (and humiliating) diagnostic procedures. This film tells the heartfelt stories of several gay men, who have made entirely different choices about military service. Due to missing freedom of speech the young men are forced to hide their faces while exposing one of Turkey’s biggest taboos. (Description courtesy of the filmmaker.)

On May 6th, 2009 Maine became the f irst state to legislatively grant same-sex couples the right to marry. Seven months later, a referendum reversed this right, and Maine became thirty-first state to say “no.” Question One, a new documentary by award winning filmmakers Joe Fox and James Nubile, chronicles the fierce and emotional battle. The film chronicles in “War Room” fashion the behind the scenes workings on BOTH sides of the campaign (the first time this has ever been done). With deeply personal and revealing interviews, people bared their hope and heartache as they fought to the finish for an issue framed and anchored in passion and purpose. The film also documents the controversial leading role of California based campaign consultants Frank Schubert and Jeff Flint as referendum proponents. Schubert-Flint Public Affairs headed the 2008 campaign for Proposition 8 in California, and have since taken the lead in a nationwide effort to outlaw same-sex marriage in other states. Rana and Adineh, two women of very different backgrounds and social class are accidentally brought together to share a journey. Rana, inexperienced, religious and bound by traditions, is forced to drive a cab in order to survive f inancially. Adineh, wealthy yet rebellious, has escaped from her home. Along the way, Rana begins to understand that her passenger is a transsexual who is planning on having an operation. For Rana, comprehending and accepting such a reality is close to impossible and tantamount to abandoning everything she was raised to believe. Rana has chosen a path in order to support her family, while Adineh (Eddie) has fled his home and city to escape his complicated situation as a transsexual man prevented from living as his true self by his family. They find themselves on the same journey and caused to know each other in a better way.
